Hi there,

I just got back from my 1st visit to the doctor and am confused and a little annoyed.

After I told the doctor that I was pregnant after actively trying, he asked me if I wanted to terminate, odd and upsetting.

I gave him the date of my last period 11th march and my ovulation date 25th march(I know this as I had been testing) and he said I am 5 weeks pregnant, but on every pregnancy planner I try it says I am 7 weeks and 5 days.

So early on how can he seem to make such a simple mistake according to my gp you get pregnant when your period is due!

You are both right... you are 7 weeks LMP and 5 weeks gestation. The baby is only 5 weeks old (conceived 5 weeks ago)... but you are 7 weeks from your last missed period. Most people go by the LMP date... at least that is what is most common... hope that helps.

BTW, I can understand how upsetting it must have been for the dr. to say something like that. Was he not paying attention? I used to go to a dr. who would never look at me when I was talking or asking questions. After delivery I never went back to him, I switched to a new dr. and it is much better. Maybe you should look into a dr. you are more comfortable with.

Your due date is around January 18, 2008.

This is how it is calculated:
First day of your last period: March 11, 2007
Add 7 days: March 18, 2007
Subtract 3 months: January 18, 2007
Add 1 year: January 18, 2008

I can't add any more to what ALK said!

It would be December 18, J_9... March 18 minus 3 months is:
1.) February 18,
2.)January 18,
3.) December 18...

Yeah, because Im due January 6 and I conceved in April.

My brain has decided to shut down since finals are over and I am officially on summer break. I had to look up the formula in my Nursing PDQ.

I will know it by heart in the fall though as I am sure it will be on my tests. I will be in OB and Pediatrics in the fall.

Really, once you get an ultrasound, you'll know more accurately when your due date is.

As for your DR don't be afraid to change to a different one. You should be happy and have a good time being pregnant. You don't need a DR who is going to interfer with that.

Good Luck!
