We have a refrigerator that isn't cooling correctly. Last week we lost power for a day. We had to turn off the main switch in the house until the power was restored. After it was restored and we turned on the main switch, the dial was set at 8. It isn't as cold as it should be. We didn't know if we should have set it at 5, which is the initial setting. Should we do that, let it sit for 24 hours at 5 and then increase it and see what happens? I don't know if there is something else that may be wrong. I don't have the funds right now to call for a repairman. Thanks.

You can try setting it a little colder and see if that works. Have you cleaned the condenser coil recently? This can also make it run warm. The condenser will be on the back of the refrigerator or at the bottom.

My refrigerator is about 9 years old. Recently it has not been making ice on a regular basis. It makes it and then it doesn't. Now it has stopped completely. We are always checking the arm to make sure it is in the correct position and it is. What else could be the problem that we could do the work ourselves instead of calling an expensive repairman? Thanks.

I could tell you right now its going to be that I'm. But to check the functions you can pull the cover off, might be tough, the get a wire with just the ends stripped off the put the ends in the holes t and h for the heater on the bottom... the one next to m and m for the motor and the one next to v and v for the water valve. Got to hold the light switch for all this to work.dont get shocked

Thanks for the answer. The problem it seemed was that their were ice built up on the coils, so that got melted and now it makes ice. Go figure.
We are having a problem with our refrigerator cooling now. It is cool, but not cold. The dial is set at 8 (9 is the highest).
Could it be the thermostadt?
