Hello,

I am planning to build a ½ bathroom (toilet and sink) in the basement and wanted to find out if I could avoid running vent for the waste pipe. Toilet will be located 3ft from the ejector basin, which is vented, and the sink vent will be linked with basin vent. Please see diagram below and advise if this is acceptable and/or provide advice.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Sorrry Chris, but the vent servicing the ejector pit must be a dedicated one.
The lavatory vent must be separate from the pit vent. The reason for this is while the lavatory and fixture vents just pull outside air into the system to relieve the suction caused by draining waste the pit vent must push air out while the fixtures are discharging into the pit it must also pull air in while the ejector pump's pumping the pit out. It's not good plumbing practice to introduce pressure into a venting system designed to operate under suction.
Run a separate vent on the pit. Good luck, Tom

Tom,

Ok, so I do follow what you are saying. Waste pit needs to have independent vent (just specific for the pit). Problem I am running into is that there is no vent connection in the basement. Everything is at 1st and 2nd level. What other options do I have? Other question is could I share one vent for the basinet and sink as shown in my original diagram? Do you have any diagrams showing proper connection for this type of setup?

Your help is greatly appreciated,
Chris

If local codes permit you may run the two vents out over the foundation and up the wall a bit. Chapter 14, Sections 14.4 and 14.5 of the Standard Plumbing Code addresses this. In short they say that you may not terminate a vent beneath a door, window or and ventilating opening. No vent shall be terminated within 10 feet of any such opening unless it's at least 2 feet above the top of such opening. Good luck, Tom

Tom,

Assuming I have two vents and one specific for pit (already in place). Could I use venting configuration as shown in my diagram for the lavatory and vanity? If not, how should the lavatory vent be connected. Please provide a sketch if possible.

Thanks,
Chris

H I Chris,
You're just fine on the fixtures vent. Just eliminate the crossover on top and run them out separately. Good luck, Tom,
