I am working on my grand daughters 89 honda hatchback, carborated not fuel injected. The car will run as long as I keep the ignition switch on to start. Soon as I let go it stops. Thought it may be main fuze and checked it out according to manual. But both the new main and the old main are not getting any continuity readings. I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Anyone ever run into this problem? Thanks skip

Here's how to properly test all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter:

Your description makes it sound like the ignition switch needs replacing.

This is the simple solution, I know exactly what it is. 1, your daughter and who ever else drives that car (here is the important part) LOOSE THE BIG WAD OF KEYCHAIN, it does nothing but tear up the ignition switch (which is almost 20 years old anyways) replace the ignition switch. Not the key switch, but the plastic one located behind it. You can access this by removing the 2 screws on the bottom of the column, and the big circle ring right behind the steering wheel, and then 2 more phillips screws that hold the plastic mechanism onto the key cylinder.
