I would really love to give you a permanent cure cause I know how you feel about them. I have heard that toothpaste does wonders and you could try that or one of the new treatments shown on the shopping channel. Starting with clean skin helps a lot using a good cleanser and a toner to clean thoroughly.

I advise you not to use toothpaste on your face, it can irritate the skin and may also infect your acne making the condition much worse.

There are some decent over-the-counter acne products that can help treat and control acne. Try using a gentle cleanser in the morning and before bed time. Then apply an acne treatment that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, zinc, or sulfur on the acne-prone areas, to reduce and control the acne. If your acne does not improve after 6 weeks, please contact your dermatologist for a more effective treatment.

Have you ever tried Proactive skin solutions?

I have, it works wonders, but you have to keep up with it. It dries out the skin madly though, so I always use a moisturizer by olay or clinique after I use proactiv.

Yeah it does dry out my skin as well. The mosturizer works great though. The avacodo one... I think it's the avacado one. They have a lot of stuff under their name! Haha.

Don't use proactiv. It'll waste your money. And if you ask but what if it works? Than if so it will be one of those products you'll stick to for the rest of your life or until the product stops working, which will happen by the way and your acne will come back more worse. And toothpaste belongs in your mouth not on your face. Here are some steps to help you instead:

Use a facial cleanser that's for sensitive skin. NOT oily. Since you have acne your skin is sensiitive.

Use an overnight cream(not spot treatment because spot treatment is only to put on one spot not your entire face so find some cream that has salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc. that you can spread over you entire face overnight. I do not reccoment clearisil or neutrogena products)

A MASK. BENTONITE CLAY is the best.

Proactiv does work well. I've never heard of a medicine stopping working, but I guess potentially it could. But then again doesn't that mean that any acne medicine one uses will do that? I mean, if you find one that helps your acne, I say go for it, because I've used cleansers and toners and moisturizers for years, and I've struggled with acne a lot, and it's a huge downer. When you find something that helps, you stick with it. I see your point though. :)

Try this for one week - should take care of them all - when showering scrub your face with dove soap and a loofah with hot water...

Good Luck

I think proactiv has high percentages of benzoyl peroxide.which realeases oxygen killing the bacteria on your face. So you if you stop using proactive the bacteria will come back. And since your face was so used to using proactiv that when you stop using it after your acne went away, the acne will come back anyway. But seriously everyone's skin is different. It might or may not work for you. So if you want to try go for it. But if you're a teenager or just budding in that phase. Acne is pretty normal. You can take olive leaf extracts pill. Which help your liver control your overload of hormones. But try the mask that I mentioned. Oh and toothpaste. Why it works is because some toothpast products have salicylic acid in it. So it's better buying a product that's meant for your face

Ive had acne since I was 13 and I'm 20 now. Ive found that random products work for a while and then they stop working. I had periods when my skin was looking a lot better and times when my face is nothing but red patches-like right now! Aargh! I reckon its because I've been stressed from my hearbreak in the past few months? Good advice I can tell you is go to your doctor. My doctor gave me a wonderful antibiotic that I used for moths and months everyday and it worked wonders- u must be patient with pills and stick to them though. I guess what you need to do is see your doctor and then experiment with different facial cleansers and moisturisers meant for sensitive skin. Avoid using face scrubs because they'll just irritate your skin and make it worse! Erm don't know if I was any help but I hope so! : )

I had OMG bad acne, yes and I mean bad. I tried everything and they only BARELY worked. I went to my dermatologist and they put me on an antibiotic (I use minocycline but be careful not to take it before 12 hours apart because it will make your head spin out of control; be careful on some of these anti-biotics), benezoyle proxide, and tazorac. This drys out your skin very much, its almost constantly dry and it burned for a few weeks, sometimes I had to put an ice pack on my face but I got over that after the few weeks; I do use a lotion and it helps though (get the non-cosmetic lotions). I recommend getting a soap for dry skin this helps a LOT with the medicine so the soap doesn't make the dry skin worse (I recommend cetaphil I think is the name for the soap AND the lotion). Even though your skin is dry that's an easy fix; what we are trying to do here is getting rid of the acne. My acne hasn't been better since before I started having it. It has really took a 360 and I look SO much better and its almost totally gone. There are a few red spots on my face and they are slowly going away but they are so mild it doesn't bother me. Its been a few months since I started but everything helped so much.

P.S.: No matter what you use, it takes time. On the medicine I used it actually got worse sometimes and just flip flopped every now and then but it just took time. So don't worry if its not working, be constant with taking it, and try and relax because its going to get better with time.

I think its just like if you get a strain of bacteria that is resistant to an antibiotic. IF you have acne your skin may eventually become resistant to medications that you use.
