Hi I'm 19 and a virgin. I've had irregular periods since I was 14 I was always told they'd straighten themselves out after a few years, but they didn't. I made my 1st appointment to go to the gyn, and I'm nervous on why my periods are so irregular. Is this a common problem with girls my age that can be taken care of fairly easy with medication or something. Or is this something really serious? Which one is most likely? Thanks for the replies I'm really nervous?

Personally I think it is quite normal. My daughter is twenty-seven and her periods have never been regular. I believe it's just like that for some of us. I also think you can keep a diary and get some idea of when you are due on even if you have to add or subtract a few days here and there - a pattern starts to emerge.

Having said that, it might also be worth checking things out with your doctor just to make sure everything is okay. But I'm sure he or she will tell you you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks I have my first gyn appointment in about a week. And when I say it's irregular it skips months every now and then and like skips two months then it might be every 45 days then after 3 consecutive it'll skip another one or two months totally, but it's always been like that it's not like it's something new. Thanks for the replies I just want peace of mind so I can stay calm this next week until my appointment.

Ever since I started my period I had irregular periods.. sometimes I'd start 3 weeks late. When I started my freshmen year, I went 3 months late. My mom took me to the gyn and they put me on the pill. Not only does the pill protect against pregnancy, it regulates and slows the flow of your period down. Its amazing :) Ask for Yaz when you go!
