Trump's speech on the trip was a foreign policy doctrine that signaled that under his watch ideology has no value. He signaled the end of the nation building neocon era. He replaces it with a realism based on primarily good commercial relations. He thinks prosperity is the mutual interest that can overcome ideological differences .

That is the essence of his carrot and stick offer to Iran. The mullahs are nothing if not ideological. He told them make a deal ....or else .

It is an open question if this tactic will succeed. And an even greater question is can China be trusted to be a reliable business partner?

It was this type of thinking that led to opening China to the US markets . But they have never lost the desire to dominate and suppress liberty.

In this his policies resembles Nixon's realism . But that was not enough .The Soviet Union's and the Chicom's agenda was to spread their brand of communism around the world Reagan won the cold war by combining realism with a heavy dose of unwavering American ideology .
