In 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 9287 new tuberculosis cases, for a case rate of 2.9 per 100,000. But there continue to be gross disparities in rates of disease. A total of 68% of newly reported cases in 2016 were in foreign-born persons, who had a case rate 14 times that among U.S.-born persons

In the US, illegal immigrants account for 71.4% of all TB cases and 85% of the multidrug-resistant (MDR) cases .

And that is not all. These invaders are crossing the border with all types of contagious health issues that used to be screened when we had a rational immigration policy. Scabies is so infectious that if you sit in a bus seat in which the previous passenger was infected ,you are likely to get the disease.

MDR can easily become the pandemic the CDC would have you believe that covid was .

With respect to TB, this not because of any invasion. Your numbers as far as percentage is correct but it is misleading as show on this slide. The numbers of incoming cases of TB has not changed in at least 30 years, yet the reason the percentage has changed is because of the improved treatment of those born in the US, reducing the number of domestic cases.

As the chart shows ;TB would be close to eradication if not for the steady flow of illegals into the country . The guidelines for legal entry into the US if followed would prevent the increase in the US.

By law, refugees diagnosed with an inadmissible condition are not permitted to depart for the United States until the condition has been treated.

You both seem to be right. While TJ's chart shows a steady decline both in total cases and cases per hundred thousand (other than in 2021), Tom is right to point out that the vast majority of existing cases is among a group of people that shouldn't be here to begin with. The number of MDR cases is especially disturbing. It just shows yet again that obeying the law would probably be a good thing for all of us.

Read that carefully. If you have two sources, native born and through immigration, and one (immigration) does not change, then as the native born decreases, the percentage of those with TB amongst immigrants increases even if there is no change in actual numbers.

In deed if, as some claim, the numbers of immigrants increase, and the numbers of those with TB stays the same, then in fact that percentage of immigrants with TB has decreased.

In any case, these numbers do not support a fear of a new pandemic coming from immigrants because in worst case, the numbers of immigrants with TB has not changed in 30 years and the percentage has actually declined if you look at the increase in numbers of immigrants.

All very true and well said, but the fact remains that the great majority of TB cases in America are with illegal immigrants. TB is treatable but remains highly infectious, and the MDR cases are worrisome. It is still a problem to be reckoned with.

While most people celebrate the Statue of Liberty as the US welcoming of immigrants ;often forgotten was the role of Ellis Island in processing immigrants before admission into the country. Anyone with an infectious disease were admitted into what was then a state of the art hospital . TB patients were isolated in a ward that was locked from the outside. Since there was no cure ;they either survived and recovered from the disease or died . For those that died this was their last view and the closest they came to being inside the country .

If we had anything close to a rational immigration policy we would not be allowing anyone with an infectious disease into the country . That would mean having control of the borders and pre-screening applicants .

Since we have no control then we really don't know the true numbers we are dealing with . We count people who we catch or voluntarily surrender to be processed . We really have no way of knowing how many people have entered the country ,and how many of them are bringing infectious disease with them .
