Looking for a 'new American sunrise ' ? We could do worse than follow Tim Scott .
“I know America is a land of opportunity, not a land of oppression, ”I know it because I’ve lived it.

Tim Scott: Faith in America - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqu52y1B6qc)

Scott was raised by a single mother in poverty. But he graduated from college and started his own business. He credits his success to his Christian mother and a local Chick-fil-A franchisee that took an interest in him.
As a Senator for the last decade he rightly takes credit for ushering in the Tax Cut and Jobs Act built “the most inclusive economy” in recent U.S. memory, with record low unemployment for black and Hispanic Americans.

Scott on Final Passage of Tax Reform: “Big Win for Middle Class Families, U.S. Economy” | U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina (senate.gov) (https://www.scott.senate.gov/media-center/press-releases/-scott-on-final-passage-of-tax-reform-big-win-for-middle-class-families-us-economy)

He tried to negotiate a bi-partisan police reform bill . He is a strong advocate for school choice.

He will set out his agenda during the campaign . His toughest challenge will be in the GOP primaries where he will have to convince the base that his positive message will sell better than the negative messages of Trump . He set the ball in motion with his response to Clueless Joe's SOTU address.

I think the repubs are putting together a good group of potential nominees. Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Scott, and even Trump would be a tremendous move forward over the pathetic figure currently in the White House, but the job would be, shall we say, "adventurous"? Reigning in fed spending is going to be a nightmare.

I would love to have a candidate I could vote FOR instead of just choosing the lesser of two evils. Tim Scott appears to fulfil that need . He has a positive and optimistic message like Reagan had A Scott presidency would bring common sense conservatism without the drama.

Regarding Ukraine ;he says degrading Russia is in our national interest but he is calling for accountability for what has been sent . I think we blew a chance to bring Russia into the western world . He is definitively right about accountability . More evidence of waste and corrupt fraud is becoming evident daily .

What we need is someone in Congress now like Truman ;who travelled over 10,000 miles to visit bases in the US and make an independent appraisal of how the $10.5 billion allocated by Congress to strengthen the US military was being spent. . The waste and wartime profiteering he saw across the country shocked him. “I have never yet found a contractor who, if not watched, would not leave the government holding the bag,”

He set up a separate Senate Committee to be a watch dog .He became a thorn in the side of FDR even though he was a fellow Dem. On a shoe string budget his committee

Saved the government $10 – 15 billion;
Saved thousands of lives by uncovering defective equipment and materials that were to be used by troops, and unsafe conditions at plants where wartime materials were being manufactured; and
Shortened WWII by streamlining federal contracting practices.

The smears about Scott not being an authentic Black have begun.

What's an "authentic Black" and why isn't he?

tomder55
Apr 16, 2023, 03:53 PM
The first time I heard about authentic Blacks was when the emperor was labeled as not authentic .

So when black Americans refer to Obama as "one of us," I do not know what they are talking about. In his new book, "The Audacity of Hope," Obama makes it clear that, while he has experienced some light versions of typical racial stereotypes, he cannot claim those problems as his own - nor has he lived the life of a black American.

I'm surprised this is new to you . There has been scholarship and published books about the authentic Black.

Amazon.com: The Real Negro: The Question of Authenticity in Twentieth-Century African American Literature (Literary Criticism and Cultural Theory): 9780415968355: Eversley, Shelly: Books (https://www.amazon.com/Real-Negro-Authenticity-Twentieth-Century-Literature/dp/0415968356)

Clueless Joe got a pass for saying
“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”Implying that the emperor was not authentic .

2007 Peter Beinart wrote

“For many white Americans, it’s a twofer. Elect Obama, and you not only dethrone George W. Bush, you dethrone [Al] Sharpton, too. But being the ‘good’ black is tricky. The more whites love you, the more you must reassure your own community that you are still one of them.”

Beinart argued that the emperor was seen as a "good black," and thus had less of following among black people. Meanwhile, agitators like Al Sharpton were seen as the authentic "bad blacks." Beinart, argued that the emperor had to prove his loyalty to The People in a way that "bad blacks" never have to.

The emperor overcame this because politically he supported the Dem plantation positions . Tim Scott rejects the culture of dependency the Dems create .

It's the battle Clarence Thomas has had to fight for decades. You can throw Dr. Carson into that crowd as well. It reminds me of what Biden said to Charlamagne. "You ain't black if you vote for Trump." I sometimes wonder why black voters tolerate that patronizing attitude.

tomder55

Scott announced his candidacy . He is sticking to a well tried narrative that his biography proved the American dream is real and relevant today. He says his life story disproves Dem lies.,

That he believes self reliance is an alternative to the Dem plantation proves to the left he is a Clarence Thomas like Uncle Tom

Lost in all of this is the fact that Scott and Thomas both DID come up to great success after starting on the lower rungs of the ladder. Same is true of Dr. Carson, and that's why they are hated so much. It's sad to say, but there are many Americans now who just want someone to give it to them.

Liberal Black leaders are the worse . If anyone could be compared to House Negroes it is them . They are the Black face of the Democrat plantation.

Check out the antics of the NAACP(the irony of having the word Negro in their organization name escapes them ) They have issued a travel warning to Blacks against the state of Florida even as the NAACP head lives there . The advisory grossly distorts the state's record to take cheap shots at DeSantis.

DeSantis has passed bills requiring the teaching of slavery ;abolition and the Civil Rights movement . That is a far cry from the charge that he is trying to erase Black history .

“Students shall develop an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping on individual freedoms.”

Chapter 1003 Section 42 - 2022 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate (flsenate.gov) (https://www.flsenate.gov/laws/statutes/2022/1003.42#:~:text=Students%20shall%20develop%20an%20 understanding,for%20nurturing%20and%20protecting%2 0democratic)

African American History (fldoe.org) (https://www.fldoe.org/academics/standards/subject-areas/social-studies/african-amer-hist.stml)

The issue is Florida rejecting theCollege Board’s new AP class in African-American Studies, which is full of garbage like “Black Queer Studies” and “the case for reparations.”

That is all old news as the board revised the curriculum in February after DeSantis voiced the state's objections .

Despite that the advisory still claims
“Florida public schools will not teach your children accurate African-American history, which includes a history of enslavement, segregation, racial injustice and systemic racism,”

Letter to the editor in today's Chicago Tribune:

Florida is at the bottom of state rankings.

The slang word woke means, “alert to racial prejudice and discrimination.” Those on the extreme right of the political spectrum are weaponizing that word to cast aspersions on progressive ideology. Pray tell, Gov. Ron DeSantis, what is abhorrent about teaching the unvarnished history of our country? More than four years under DeSantis governorship, Florida continues to languish toward the bottom of state rankings assessing the quality of health care, school funding, long-term elder care, and other areas key to a successful society. Teachers' salaries are among the lowest in the nation, unemployment benefits are lower than in any other state. Florida has no income tax for individuals and its corporate tax rate of 5.5% is among the lowest in the nation.

A startling fact is that a study in late 2019 revealed that 99% of Florida’s companies paid no corporate income tax. In Florida, the state’s tax revenues come largely through sales and excise taxes, which fall hardest on the poor and middle classes. Finally, the poorest 20% of Florida families paid 12.7% of their income in taxes, while the families whose income was in the top 4% paid 4.5%, and the top 1% paid 2.3% according to another 2018 study. Not only is DeSantis suppressing history, his current lack of leadership may truly need some rewriting.

A letter to the editor from...who knows who? That's how you know these things?

In the meantime, the Chicago School System continues to be a compete disaster with 55 schools unable to produce even a single student proficient in math or reading.

https://readlion.com/not-a-single-student-is-proficient-in-reading-or-math-at-55-chicago-schools/#:~:text=Out%20of%20649%20Chicago%20Public%20Schoo ls%2C%2022%20schools,2021-2022%20school%20year%2C%20according%20to%20a%20Wir epoints%20report.

Florida has low taxes and yet has a surplus of well over 20 billion dollars. If DeSantis can do that for the U.S., then let's elect him tomorrow to replace the current incompetent boob in the White House.

Florida has no income tax. The sales tax is 6% which is a little lower than in our state. Property taxes in Florida are about average, ranking 30th out of the 50 states. Gas tax is 26 cents and that's also reasonable compared to other states, so it's hard to know why anyone would want to complain much about the tax bill in that state.

In the meantime, this absurd comment (HIS way, not the way it really happened.) will, as is usually the case, remain unsupported conjecture.

The College Board to their credit made revisions and is still in the process of making revisions to the curriculum .

The ONLY reason that this became an issue was because of DeSantis pending run for the Presidency .

As for Florida's so call standings ; well US News and World Report has consistently ranked the state in k-12 as good and higher education as superior (as in #1 )

So it appears there is a disconnect here . The letter to the editor does not site sources . But I will

I have heard often about the migration to Florida the dismissive narrative that it is the weather that draws them to the state.

I'll say it ... The weather in Florida is ok for the winter . It sucks for a lot of the year. Many days the heat and humidity are unbearable. I have been to both southern California and most of Florida . I would take southern California any day if weather were the only factor .

People are escaping California in droves to Florida and other states . Between 2020 -2022 Florida gained 600,000 residents ,,,, Texas 475,000... North Carolina 211,000 .

California ? 871,000 people fled the state .

Hundreds of thousands more left New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New Jersey for states such as Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Why? Because people are sick of progressive lefty authoritarian lunacy.

DeSantis became the face of protecting personal liberty in the pandemic years while both Trump and Clueless Joe imposed draconian restrictions on liberty .Governors like Gavin Newsom, New York's il duce Cuomo, and Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer were tripping over themselves trying to become more of a dictator than the other and destroy their state's economy.

Cuomo was so sure he did a great job that he wrote a book about it. It's a sad tale of thousands of NYers dying needlessly under his watch while his staffers worked on the taxpayer's dime writing his ticket into the White House.

The weekend ended with 59 people shot, 11 of them killed. And while Johnson said the level of violence — the most shooting victims since 2016 — was “intolerable,” he didn’t undercut interim Chicago Police Supt. Fred Waller.

“It produced pain and trauma that devastated communities across Chicago, and my heart breaks for everyone affected,” Johnson said in a statement issued late Tuesday afternoon. “That’s why as mayor, I am committed to leveraging every single resource at our disposal to protect every single life in our city.”

A City Hall source, who asked to remain anonymous, said Johnson is well aware that reducing the violent crime wave that dominated the mayoral campaign will take time.
Memorial Day weekend is a “complicated ecosystem” that involves “multiple public safety challenges,” the City Hall source said.

This year, his administration distributed $2.5 million to 253 grassroots organizations so they could hold barbecues, sporting events and other constructive activities for young people and families over the long holiday weekend.

Another part of the challenge is securing “public congregate spaces” like lakefront beaches, downtown and neighborhood commercial corridors and street festivals. That requires a “significant presence” of police officers, the source said.

“There was a lot of activity going on, and that activity was safe, by and large. We had additional activity going on because of these community organizations all over the city, and they had many successful events engaging families and young people in particular. We didn’t see the significant incidents that we’ve had downtown for the most part, by and large,” the City Hall source said, without mentioning the shooting that closed North Avenue beach for a few hours on Friday afternoon (https://chicago.suntimes.com/2023/5/26/23739178/north-avenue-beach-closed-after-shots-fired-fight-no-injuries-reported-pools-lifeguards).

Thank goodness our suburb's parade and parade goers in May didn't get shot up. I didn't go, and kept listening for pop pop pop.

Johnson was a defund the police guy .Unless he has had a Road to Damascus moment and is now a tough on crime and Police supporter than I see no change coming Put aside his campaign rhetoric . Crime was the big issue and he put his finger in the wind before pivoting . Maybe he has changed . We'll see .
