I have a chance to get a pair of Maytag front load laundry (new) for a really great price (less than 1K for both), but I am a bit cautious as I know there were issues with mildew in the boot, and some electrical component issues a few years back.
These are made by Maytag under the Crosley name - models CAH4205 & CDE4205. It is the 3.34 cu. ft. washer with the electronic panel up top. I am hoping that these - mfg. late 06, early 07 - are past the prior issues.
Thanks for any input.

Having been a loyal Maytag dealer and repairman for over 30 years, all I can tell you is this, you couldn't give me a pair of front loaders! Enough said!

Are you saying that because of the way they clean, or because of the problems I listed - possibly others. Also does this apply only to the Maytag, or all front loaders - in your opinion?
Thanks for the reply.

The cleaning part is not the problem. Most of the problems have been with the electronic control panels and parts. I know a few years ago there was some kind of class action suit going on with the Maytag Front loaders because there were too many repair complaints. If you are really handy then get it especially if it's a super price. If you have to call the factory service a few times then that super price doesn't mean much.

I have a pair of front loaders. Have had them for around 3-4 years and have not have any problems with them at all.

Are yours the Maytag brand? Have you had a prob with mildew. I do understand that if the boot around the door is kept clean there will be no problem with that. Has that been your experience?
Thanks for all the input here.

We had been told that the problems you mentioned had been corrected. I guess I am looking for a time line so as not to buy a pig in a poke.
I am pretty handy, but do have other options (an Electrolux/Frigidaire pair) if the Maytag has a good chance of being problematic. The main reason I like the Maytag is the washer door can be reversed - working better for my space.
Thanks.

Neos, having been out of the Maytag retail business since 1990, I can't help you much with the front loaders. Still repairing them but shying away from the front loaders and most newer electronic controlled machines. After 37 years of this I'm really getting picky! It's almost time to hang it up! :D
