“We will always and very strongly protect patients with preexisting conditions. And that is a pledge from the entire Republican Party.”

— Trump

"This could hardly be more false — and we’ve given Trump’s claim our worst rating, a Bottomless Pinocchio (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/06/29/bottomless-pinocchio-trumps-claim-that-he-will-always-protect-those-with-preexisting-conditions/?itid=lk_inline_manual_57).

Trump took office and immediately began trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, and now, his administration is asking the Supreme Court to strike down the entire law, including the preexisting condition coverage guarantee.

Trump has not offered a replacement plan, despite promising one since days before taking office in 2017."

Thanks to the WASHINGTON COMPOST.

Where is this "alternate plan"? Will my autistic son be paying the $250 a month for ACA that he did under Obama or continue to pay $650 a month (or more) under Trump? -- or ACA will disappear entirely?

Is that the plan? Go back to the old insurance rules and just keep the pre-existing conditions part? No one has actually seen a plan from repubs or the dufus or anything in writing except lip service and promises. What about the caps on services being removed or the expansions of Medicaid which is the whole thrust of the law in the first place?

Seems to me all this repeal stuff would be easier if an actual plan was on the table. Otherwise repubs and the dufus look like they are trying to put one over on the American people especially the poorest among us. No surprise the dufus wouldn't defend a law repubs hate, but more of the same idiocy to repeal it.

Betting SCOTUS sees this for what it is, an end run around the congress and repubs failure to repeal it through the NORMAL, and LAWFULL legislative process

Trump has continued to claim he is NOT in favor of eliminating pre-existing conditions, but that is a LIE strictly for public consumption. Ignore what Trump says, watch what Trump does.

His administration has asked the Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act, telling the court that “the entire ACA must fall.” The administration’s argument comes as hundreds of thousands of Americans (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/health_care/despite-pandemic-trump-administration-urges-end-to-aca/2020/06/25/b92e7a00-b759-11ea-9a1d-d3db1cbe07ce_story.html) have turned to the government program for health care as they’ve lost jobs during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump's oft-repeated lie that he wants to protect health care coverage for Americans with preexisting conditions has not been accompanied by any plan showing how he would do that, and Trump's Justice Department’s brief supports eliminating pre-existing conditions.

Trump's team has argued to the Supreme Court that the provisions protecting Americans with preexisting conditions are “inseverable” from the individual mandate, and therefore should be struck down with it.

The fact is that while even one piece of legislation exists it is not possible to implement another or to bring the House to debate alternative measures so discussion of alternatives is moot. Politics is the art of the possible and yet people continue to believe it is the art of the impossible

If this means Trump cannot offer an alternative health plan protecting pre-existing conditions, you're completely wrong. All Trump has to do is reveal his plan showing its features. He has not done that. Never.

His administration has officially taken a position opposing saving pre-existing conditions.

of course he can offer an alternative but he cannot bring forth conflicting legislation until the existing legislation is repealed. He could of course include the repeal provisions in new legislation but with a hostile House that would go nowhere. Therefore offering alternatives is just so much talk. People want their cake and eat it too

Our process of legislation Clete does indeed allow for changes in previous legislation and is how old laws are changed, so no excuse for repubs not putting forth a better plan anytime they want. Obviously they don't have a better plan, and just want to repeal the current one.

That would be a big DUH!

But Tal they do have a plan, return to the pre-obamacare status quo where less people had cover and you needed to be employed to have cover, because cover is provided by your benevolent employer who generously negotiates with the insurers on your behalf at minimum cost

nothing right about it, that model has all sorts of problems, which obamacare didn't cure

Obamacare wasn't meant to be a cure all but a step toward better more widespread care through the expansion of Medicare. It was billed as the AFFORDABLE care act, and 10's of millions have taken advantage of it. We had the discussion years ago, and the debate still rages on, but to this day the repeal without replace is alive and well while others push to build on it. We have a chance if we get rid of the dufus and his rabid band of sycophants.
