Set a budget, determine how much money you have left over every month after paying for the necessities, take half the money left over and put it away in a savings account. Wait until the pot grows big enough to afford your trip.

People don't save money since they spend it, and more (credit cards) than they make.

Have money deducted into a savings account, that you don't touch, from your paycheck each week.

That way you don't have to make a choice to put it into the bank
