Does anyone have an explanation for his latest mistake
Donald Trump recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital, in reversal of decades of policy - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-12-07/donald-trump-recognises-jerusalem-as-israels-capital/9234228)
Trump has declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel, the Israeli have Tel Aviv as their capital and yet Trump has unilaterally decided Jerusalem is the capital. Is this a master plan? Will his next proposal be that Palestinians and Israeli share the city as capital, that these two states co-exist as states within a state? Will he declare Jerusalem a free city? The Israeli want defensible borders not a shared existence with a deadly enemy. Trump has reignited the indignation of the arab world in an insensitive move that may see Israel attacked by its neighbours

He wants to go down in history as a war president. Little Rocket Man didn't work out, so let's try this.

It is easy to go down as a warmongering President, just start a war, Bush did it, so Trump doesn't want to be outdone, but let us hope his legacy isn't twenty years of unending war

Maybe he is just doing what others should have done before him ?
"This week we marked the 46th anniversary of the unification of Jerusalem. Israel designated Jerusalem as its capital in 1950, yet most countries maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv due to ongoing political debate (https://unitedwithisrael.org/elie-wiesel-jerusalem-is-above-politics/) with the Palestinians."
https://unitedwithisrael.org/jerusalem-or-tel-aviv/
The U.S. Congress sought to reverse this travesty with the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, passed by overwhelming bipartisan majority in both the House and Senate. The act states that “Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel and the United States Embassy in Israel should be established in Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999.”

Ok so not an original idea from Trump, but surely Jerusalem is capital of Israel doesn't preclude the Palestinians, in 1948, not all of Jerusalem was Israeli territory. There can be a price for victory, and it cuts both ways

I think the answer is that they were the only ones to move forward and annex the city and unite it under one government. They also pour in the money and resources to rebuild it all.

It may be true they have annexed and maintained this city, one in which 3 major religions claim as important to their faiths, but it is divided into sections that different faiths claim as theirs also. Lets not lose sight of the fact nobody is happy with his proclamation (Not even the Pope!) except his buddy Nettie, and he did sign the same waiver as his predecessors delaying the move of the embassy for 6 months.
I see the move as throwing crap in the game. Just my opinion though. Others may see it differently.

I'm with you on this one Tal, it is an unnecessary stirring of the disputes, does the setting of an embassy or the moving of one require years of highly public notice? Surely what it takes is negotiations between two governments

Be nice if there was a fair arbitrator working with those governments. The Drama Queen Dufus has turned world affairs into a made for TV reality show. He needs a new writer!

The MASTER of the WORLD just got another slap down, the margin in the Senate becomes thinner, the deal maker will have to prove himself

At least that little drama is over for a while, but The Dufus ain't done yet. Republicans barely dodged this bullet, but better not see the war amongst them is still there. The extreme right wing is still gunning for the establishment with as much zeal as they can muster, which is considerable.

Don't worry, Tal, the right wing will carry the day, it's all bread and circuses, admittedly more circus than bread. The star ascendeth, see his brilliance, and everyone worshipped the beast, oh, did I say that out loud, maybe I blew his cover. SSSSSh!

The US has had an OFFICAL position of recognizing Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel since 1995 . It was not unilateral . It represents US policy since the 1995 'Jerusalem Embassy Act '. Other Presidents have made it known it was their intention to move the US Embassy to Israel. This is the first President who has made the same intention known who is being taken seriously .
This was not a mistake . The mistake was taking so long to make the move as 3 previous Presidents fell in love with the idea that they would make the so called '2 state solution ' happen.
A great residual fall out from this is that the dopes in the GA of the UN voted to condemn the announcement . That gives us all the justification necessary for modestly cutting our bloated UN budget . (
$285 million less
)
The U.S. pays for 22 percent of the General Assembly’s regular budget, and more than 28 percent of peacekeeping—in both cases the highest rate of any member state. And traditionally, the U.S. has bankrolled roughly 25 percent of the much larger, overall UN system, for which the UN in 2012 reported revenues totaling $41.5 billion.

I think you should give them a real hair cut, short back and sides, a number 1 all over. The UN is no friend of the US, it has been taken over

We don't slavishly follow Trump's lead, we are a friend of Israel, but we can also read the wind and don't engage in exercises in futility
