Old B&W film - An old seaman possibly a fisherman sat in a chair stroking a cat in one scene. I think there was treasure or family money & he had lost his memory (head injury?) & the family needed it to survive I think. He didn't speak just sat there looking lost.
I saw a bit of it as a child in the 70's

Grateful for any help I've been searching for years. I think it was English but it could have been American.

I keep thinking of a film, but it's in color; and, the man isn't a fisherman. But, I'll suggest it anyway.

Hans Brinker (1969 TV movie)

Hans Brinker (TV Movie 1969) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079269/)

Here's the movie on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95FYjPSiz_g

This really is just "a shot in the dark".

Thank you for trying to help. Sadly it isn't the one. I appreciate the suggestion though. :)

You're welcome. It really is kind of you to respond; a lot of people never let you know.

At least your question got me searching for a copy of the movie, which I haven't seen for decades. I now have the movie to watch=} I hope it will hold up to my golden memories.
