According to the link below, a part called the "mixer" is broken in our kitchen faucet aerator. The aerator seems to be working perfectly, just wondering:

1. what the MIXER is supposed to do and
2. should this whole thing be replaced?

The mixer bleeds air into the end of the faucet. If everything is working don't worry. However, they are only a couple $$ at HD. Make sure to get one with the proper thread pitch if you decide to change.

Mixer aerates water. You will have a hard time getting just the mixer by itself. Why not to get new aerator that comes complete ? As suggested above, take the old aerator with you to Home Depot and get a new one. Costs $3.00.
