I am corrently taking an anabiotic called KeFlex for an eye infection. A couple weeks ago I got my pap and it looks like I have a yeast infection. The doct wants to give me another type of anabiotic. My question is since I'm taking KeFlex do I have to take another anabiotic or can this one also help with my yeast infection?

Unfortunately Keflex will not work for a yeast infection, it may actually CAUSE a yeast infection. Keflex (Cephalexin) is an antiinfective, which is used to get rid of bacterial infections.

A yeast infection is a fungal infection which requires an antifungal such as diflucan.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks J_9,

Another question for you!

The doct gave me a 7day treatment for my eye infection.
I called my gyn and I'm going to be picking up my yeast precription today. She said it's just one tablet that I have to take. (she told me the name but I forgot)
Now I have 2more days to go with KeFlex. Do you think I should finish my KeFlex treatment then on Thurday take the yeast tablet? Or should I take it today once I go pick it up? Like you said, KeFlex might cause a yeast infection, I don't want to take the tablet and then get another infection right after. Help Please :)

Well, you know that you MUST finish the entire Keflex prescription. If you can wait until Thursday to take the diflucan (which is probably what the doc called in as it is a 1 time only pill) then wait. You may also find some relief until then by getting some Lotramin from the pharmacy. It is a topical lotion that can help in the interim.

If you find that you cannot wait, take the diflucan. The diflucan will most likely cover the last few days of the Keflex.
