I was wondering on replace the wax ring on a toilet bolt.
If you added a nut, to stabilized the bolt so it wouldn’t wobble
You could line up the holes of the toilet, much better.
But do you think it may interfere how the toilet seats on the wax ring?
Which is better put the wax ring on the toilet or in the floor first?

You can't add a nut, because then you just have to lift up the toilet again to take it off.
Some plumbers say wax on floor, some say on toilet.
Each has its pros and cons.
I have only installed one toilet, but I put it on the toilet so that I wouldn't smear it all over the drain. But I smeared it on the floor because it was about 90 degrees that day, and I didn't lift it straight up enough. It was a one piece toilet! I forgot it would be so heavy! And I forgot I would have to lift it over the bolts! I should have cut them down a little.
You can hold the bolt somewhat with small vice grips or any number of kludges.

All you need to do is take some of the clean old wax, pack it around the bolt and it will hold quite well. You can use a nut but make sure it clears the hole in the bowl base.

Oh duh, if you have a small enough nut, you can just leave it there. Sorry. Thanks ma0641

Wax Rings that are sold in warehouses that cater to the trade are sold with 4 nuts and washers. Two nuts and washers go against the closet ring while the other two go over the toilet base.
You can also buy extra nuts and washers in Home Depot type stores for few pennies. Just make sure you get the correct ones
Btw: we always use 4 nuts. Makes installation clean and easy.
Hope that helps

(It sure helps me, not that I ever expect to install any more toilets.)
