Discuss how each of the THREE environmental factors needed for successful seed germination (not seedling growth) help a seed to germinate, and why soil and sunlight are only needed some days later when the seedlings have appeared above the soil surface.

The three environmental factors needed for successful seed germination are warmth, oxygen and water. Warmth is needed because the soil must be warm enough to activate the enzymes required for germination, the temperature of the soil is what controls seed germination. Oxygen is needed because germinating seeds undergo aerobic respiration and use oxygen found in the soil to do this, and then energy will be released for the germination to happen. Water is needed for biochemical reactions that occur during germination. Soil is only needed some days later because

This is what I've done so far.

Good. Now, what is supplied by the soil and the sun? What is the process with the sun called and what happens. You referred to it in your answer. What does the plant get from the soil? Hint N, P, K. Keep at it, you're almost there!!
