What a great site! I would like to incorporate 2 switched outlets in my rewiring of the living room. I have run 12/2 to the primary tv/stereo outlets; from those I continue to two more outlets and then up to a switch. The easy way to make the bottum of the last 2 outlets controlled by switch would be to run an additional cable to the outlets from the switch. With romex being the price it is, I wonder if I can pigtail at the 1st of the last 2 outlets then use the neutral as a hot and break the tab on the brass side of the outlet. In short can I put a swithc on the end of a circuit to control the last 2 outlets with only one cable running between the outlets? Sorry if this sounds confusing. Thanks for any and all help. I have wired in a new meter and upgraded to 200 amp service and it's the switched outlets that throw me for a loop. -Chris

You need to run additional wire. You can use 12/3 to accomplish this. The RED wire could be a switched hot.
