The only way you can lighten colored hair is with bleach color won't remove color. If it's not too dark you can try shampooing with dawn detergent a few times this might help.
Another suggestion is you can bo a highlight kit and pull your hair through but you must follow the directions don't be afraid to leave it on to long. Because if you don't leave it on long enough the color can be orange gold or brassy. This all general info I'm not sure how dark your hair turned out but I assure you it can be corrected. And forget color lightens over time on it own due to shampooing and the sun. good luck
