We have a commercial grade toilet that recently on three occasions has appeared to be clogged, we plunged and plunged and nothing happens, example normally when you plunge something comes up, even shreds paper, but this toilet remain clear. We called a plumber and by the time they got here the next day the toilet flushes fine, this has happened times. The plumber said last time there was no clog, he mentioned possibly needing a new toilet, but couldn't really explain or figure out what was happening.

About 3 months ago the toilet was clogged, we had plumber come and he was able to clear the toilet, but had to remove the toilet to completely clear it there was a build up.

Thank you for any ideas or suggestions

You probably moved a semi clog further down the system but not far enough to completely clear the line. Generally the outdoor clean out to the main sewer (80-100 feet) is the best to snake, or the air vents on the roof.

You probably have a partial blockage. Something is lodged in the piping and tissue and solids are getting caught on it. The tissue and solids build up and block the flow. Sometimes this build up can dissolve and flow is restored. However, the build up begins again.

Had a customer with similar situation. By the time I arrive the blockage had cleared or I could clear it by plunging. Finally I pulled the toilet and ran a snake down it. Pulled back threads of some kind of cloth. Looked like threads of a wash cloth. Have no idea how that could have gotten down the toilet.

Next time it happens have plumber pull toilet and run snake the full length to the street.

I will agree with the others, often clogs are in the pipes, not the actual toilet, and also no, often when you plunge things do not come up, but push down, depending on where clog is.

There can be a minor clog in the piping, that has to be cleared, (yes they move the toilet and run a "snake" down the pipe.

Remove toilet and inspect . There may be something stuck either in the bowl or the closet ring

Cti,
I would suggest flushing the toilet by pouring 2 -3 gallons of cold water directly into the bowl after each use; you can control a possible overflow, and, if the bowl flushes successfully there may be a blockage in the channels that connect the toilet tank with the bowls siphon or rim jets...
