An apology? Who knows? Do you need anything from him, or are you just curious?

Why are here asking strangers this question, and why would you even consider meeting anyone again who 'hurt you multiple times' ? If you are here asking, then you are considering his request.

Sounds like he wants to say goodbye before he leaves, perhaps he wants to leave on a good "note".
Perhaps he hopes to get lucky and get you in bed one more time.
Perhaps he wants to cuss you out and throw water in your face.
Only you may know, we do not know him, you or how your occasional talking is doing now.

No I don't need anything from him and yes I'm very curious

Why bother if it's just curiosity? What if he pisses you off? Would that satisfy your curiosity?

If I were to guess, because no one but himself can know his true motives, it would be that he has some unfinished business that he wants to get out of the way before he leaves. An apology, a recrimination, a vicious attack.
Do you want to hear what he wants to say? That is the question. There is NOTHING that says that you have to give him ANY time or hear ANYTHING he wants to say. It is your choice to proceed if you want.
