A person that is picked up on a warrant for contempt of court in the state of Wisconsin, do they get a hearing in front of the judge the next day?? Or what happens. Is it the law that the person gets a hearing the next day or can they just put the person in jail for lets say 6 months? I think that the person should get a hearing the next day, but that is just my opinion. Just wondering if they could not give the person a hearing. Thanks a lot

My guess is it simply depends on how busy they are, but I don't think they can hold someone without charges for more than 2 days (if law and order is correct)

But hey, if he/she didn't have time to go to court why should they hurry when they need something.

If a person is arrested they appear the next day ( or within a certain time frame) for a first appearance, in this case to have the charges read, to have a bail hearing and to have the right to meet with legal counsel or have one assigned.

Now on a comtempt of court, basically the person is already charged and found guilty by the judge, so there is no real first appearance. You did not state what the contmept of court was for.

But normally when arrested for comtempt they are held till they agree to correct the contempt situation, or until the jduge calls for them to be bought before their court, and can still then sentence them to longer time.

Comtempt of court is not like a crminal charge by the DA or the police ti is a specific action done by the judge for failure to obey one of their orders. So it can make a difffernce if it is for failure in a family court issue, failure to supply informaton to the court or exactly what they did to cause this.
