I have the opportunity to get a job working for an electrical contractor building an expansion on a California prison.I have a robbery charge that's been expunged and it's over 10 years old.I have to pass a background check. What are my chances? Also, how long will it take to know that I passed?

There are a lot of factors at play so we can't be certain. Factors like the person making the decision, the policies of the company, who you are up against, etc. If it shows up then you will be a riskier applicant then maybe someone with a clean record. Why not just be honest about it and say you have been a law abiding citizen for 10 years or more. I've had people do that before and it impresses me more.

If you are having to work inside the prison, a secured area, having a felony conviction could be an issue.

A big part of it, may be, if you told them about it, on the application, if not, and it asked for any conviction, and you listed none, but it shows up, it would hurt in many places.
