Can I flush it without it stopping up the toilet? I am scared to death of mice so please don't ask me to take it out with tongs!

A mouse yeah... a RAT, would likely have been big enough to climb out on its own.

Then you have to deal with the mouse infestation problem. If one was able to fall into the toilet...you've likely got others running around as well

My question though was can I safely flush it without backing up the toilet

I wouldn't flush it. Is it dead now? Is there someone who will fish it out for you?

I personally think is safe.

I've seen Stools safely flush larger than that mouse.

But but but what an awful ending to a cute little creature!

Consider the long list of diseases they might carry. Including the Hauntavirus. And its not nearly as bad as a Hawk, Owl or a cat getting a hold of it.

I'd let the mouse drown (add some bleach to the toilet bowl to speed the process)... shouldn't take too long and then remove and dispose of it in the trash can outside or throw out in bushes somewhere in the yard. Here, toilet paper and crap break down as they get flushed through a toilet... a mouse may get through the toilet after a flush but it could get caught up in the drain line and begin to catch things over time (especially as it decays) leading to a clogged drain sometime.

That's my thoughts...

Flushing a mouse down the toilet may or may not kill it but it will get him out with very little chance of a problem.

By now the mouse has probably drowned, if not put him out of his misery.
