I was impressed many years ago with a movie scene, in which people who had died (appeared somewhat translucent) in an old classic black and white film, a man and woman sitting on a park bench and watching and commenting on how everyone who was still alive seems to be in such a hurry. I can't find the movie and would love to know the title. I've looked through topper movies, but this one wasn't a comedy.

That sounds like one of the film versions of Thornton Wilder's wonderful play "Our Town". You likely saw the 1940 movie.

You can read the play's summary here:

I believe you're remembering a scene with Emily (who has died) and the Stage Manager.
