WHat's wrong with things that are reliable and effective like products like Monistat and others.

Eating it? Any yogurt is good for your intestinal bacteria. It won't cure anything. If you get yeast infections over and over, drink cranberry and other acidic berry juices, keep clean, wear plain white cotton loose fitting underpants with loose fitting clothing over them, and bleach the undies using super hot water. If you have a sexual partner, you may be giving him yeast without it showing, and getting it back again over and over, so he needs Monistat too.

Flavor free yogurt (plain) with active yeast is the only type of yogurt that will help with a yeast infection. Just eating it can help prevent an infection, and may even help cure one. But if the yeast infection persists after a few days of eating the plain yogurt with active yeast, it's time to see your doctor, or purchase monistat, or another over the counter yeast infection cure, and using it.
WHat's wrong with things that are reliable and effective like products like Monistat and others.
If you're pregnant, monitstat, or any other yeast infection medication, is not safe. Doctors will actually advise eating plain yogurt with active yeast, as it can cure, or at least lessen the infection.
Some people don't like taking medication. Truth is, and I'm sure I'll get some flack for this from other members, but this was suggested by my doctor, you can use the plain yogurt, with active yeast, as a medication. In other words, you can eat it, and put it in the... um... area with the yeast infection.

"Unfortunately, "no study shows conclusively that eating yogurt cures or even lessens the severity of yeast infections," says Michele G. Curtis, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Neither will douching with yogurt, or dipping a tampon in it, freezing it, and inserting it. In fact, douching can cause yeast infections, Curtis says, especially if you're using yogurt; its sugars could actually help yeast grow."
But lots of women do (and some make frozen popsicles to insert) so feel free.

I wouldn't put anything on or in your reproductive tract that isn't meant to go there. Yogurt isn't meant to go there. If you can, use an over the counter medication for it.

Hate to disagree. I've done a lot of research on this, because I had a constant yeast infection with my first pregnancy. Over the counter medication wasn't an option, it's not safe during pregnancy. My doctor recommended active yeast yogurt, both orally, and vaginally.
Think about it. It's a natural product. So women are okay with putting man made meds in their vagina, but should be a weary of putting a natural product (only plain yogurt with active yeast), in their vagina?
Maybe women should be more weary of letting a penis enter their vagina. It's much more hazardous than plain yogurt.
Think about it, logically, and stop looking on the internet for all your info. Natural cures are much healthier than anything you buy at a pharmacy, and plain active yeast yogurt, is an actual cure for a yeast infection.

Just have to say, I really get irked when I have legit advice, and everyone that posts is basing their advice on what they found on the internet, or what they think is the right answer, without knowing the right answer.
Douche is sold, it's a product that is accepted as safe. Is it safe? NO! Douche is not okay for anyone to use. EVER! It destroys the natural enzymes in your vagina that cleans it.
But it's okay to put some man made poison fest into your body, but not plain yogurt? Really?
You all need to educate yourselves. Sorry, because I respect all that posted here, but you all seem to be on the medication bandwagon, without educating yourselves on homeopathic remedies. Meds aren't always the answer. Meds aren't always possible. Education is key. Google, but don't pick the first thread that pops up. Actually research. Ask your doctor. I did, and because I did, I survived a 9 month pregnancy, 5 months with a yeast infection, knowing there was no way to cure it with man made meds. Finally I talked to my doctor, and got a natural cure, which saved me from suffering for the last 4 months of my pregnancy, and that cure was plain yogurt with active yeast, both orally, and vaginally.
I lived it. Did any of you nay sayers live it? No, you googled, and jumped on the "medicate with medication approved by doctors that get paid to medicate, because natural cures don't boost the bank", sites.
Natural cures are far better than anything you can buy over the counter, or anything your doctor prescribes. And like it or not, plain yogurt with active yeast, is a natural cure for a yeast infection.
Really upset right now, because I know my facts, and I hate being dissed, links posted, one link that someone likely looked up and posted because it was the first link that popped up and they want to prove me wrong, without actually doing any research.
I know what I know. You post a link to something you just googled and haven't researched. We're supposed to give real advice here, not a Google answer, not just belief, but facts!
Now waiting for the mods to shut this down, or delete my answer, or for a professional of the medical field to tell me I'm wrong, because he/she learned that meds are great, and natural cures suck.
Just fyi, a homepathic vet told me to feed my 6 year old lab green beans to stop his seizures. Before that he was having 20 plus seizures a day, multiple meds, thousands spent on vet care. Nothing worked. So I gave it a shot, gave him green beans every day.
He was 6 when we started the green beans. He was 16 when he died, and from 6 to 16 he was seizure free. No meds, just green beans.
Natural cures can work. Don't discount them because you've been programmed to believe that only doctors and the meds they get paid to disperse, are the only cure.
The End. :(

Alty, you have a 'thing' about me as evidenced by remarks and by negatives in the past on strictly subjective matters.
A thing about others too? I don't know.
I for one am very anti-drug, and have been so here so many times that I've been 'warned' about it. I for one DID read many many sites before posting the quote above. I for one did allow for trying yogurt in the vagina as well as eating it.
You assume, you presume.
You accuse others of doing what you are doing. You are going by your doctor and your experience. Anecdotes too maybe. Why could I not find a single study that showed any findings remotely significant? I really tried.

Do you want more, I have pages of links. Guess you didn't really try that hard after all.
Bottom line, I did research on this after it was suggested by my doctor, and worked. But I will admit, most of my research wasn't online. I talked to other doctors, friends in the medical field, and did research on why this would work. The links I posted aren't what I would consider reliable research, it's opinion, and I don't base my factual posts on opinion, I posted the first three links if you had bothered to Google yeast infections and yogurt, to show that there this info about this online. When I post my opinion, I'm sure to post that it is only my opinion, and not fact.
Joy, I have no problem with you at all. When you post inaccurate info I do call you on it, and I know you don't take that very well. The majority of the time it's misinformation you post in the pet forum. When I correct you, you take it hard. Nothing I can do about that, that's on you.
I can tell you that I give you more greenies than reddies, in fact I can't remember ever giving you a reddie, but then I don't remember all of your posts either, so it's entirely possible. But you wouldn't know that, since you can't see who gives you what. I have agreed with you many times. You seem okay with that, so why can't you accept it when I don't agree?
Bottom line, this is not my opinion, or an anecdote, or an issue with anyone that posted. I'm merely stating what I know, so that the OP can have that info. That's it.
If you have an issue with me, we should discuss it outside of the forum. I'm more than happy to do that.

Alty, I know this wasn't directed at me, but my thoughts are come more from who gives this advice rather than what it is. What I have seen and what I am afraid of is the person who talks to their neighbor or has talked to the cashier at their drugstore who recommends this. If your doctor says that plain yogurt can help, then give it a try. I know that a over the counter oral pill works well too, from indirect experience from my wife. (I don't have that gear down there, I've checked.).
I just want the person to think and talk to someone who has a good knowledge of what's going on down there. If they try something different or undocumented, and something bad happens, I don't want to be responsible for that.
I honestly believe that putting something man made in their vagina, a known product for a known and confirmed condition, is better then something natural. The problem with the natural is what else is in there and possible unknown circumstances that could make the problem worse. That is my microbiological experience talking. There is good flora in it, but... who knows what else especially ifit has been sitting in the fridge a while.
My two cents. I am pro-Big Pharm, not anti-Big pharm.

plain yogurt with active yeast, is a natural cure for a yeast infection.
So, you are advocating to treat yeast with yeast? Isn't that like treating bacteria with bacteria? It's like treating strep throat with more strep throat.
Firstly, we don't know that the OP actually has a yeast infection. It could be bacterial vaginosis, which can mimic a yeast infection, just to name one. There are others that can mimic a yeast infection as well.
Treating something "naturally" is called homeopathic, and I'm all for it. However, since we don't know this is actually a yeast infection, the advice given could be dangerous. Should the yogurt in question contain sugar, it's going to make the yeast infection worse since said fungus feeds and multiplies when activated by sugar. Have you ever made homemade bread from scratch? What happens when warm water and sugar is added to the yeast? It multiplies, right? And the dough rises. Right? I think you are thinking lactobacillis acidopholus, which is a bacteria, in treating a yeast infection, and it can be beneficial IF IT IS AN ACTUAL YEAST INFECTION.
Quoting your link here... Yeast Infection Home Remedies | Everyday Health (http://www.everydayhealth.com/yeast-infection/treatments/home-remedies/)
What may be ill advised, however, is putting yogurt directly into the vagina. This remedy has not been scientifically tested much (though many swear by it), and may lead to treatment-resistant infections.
It may be flavor free, but does it contain sugar?
Again, you are advocating treating a yeast infection with yeast? Very much like adding popcorn to hot oil, it will explode and multiply.
I'm not big-parma, pro-pharma, or anit-pharma. I'm all about homeopathy, if it works. But adding yeast to yeast is like adding fuel to a fire.
Me thinks you have lactobacillis acidopholis (a bacteria) which can be a homeopathic cure, confused with yeast, which is a fungus not a bacteria.
However, with all that said, we still don't even know that the OP actually HAS a yeast infection or one of the several other infections that can present with the same symptoms, but pose more dangerous outcomes.
To add, from Yeast infection during pregnancy: Are over-the-counter treatments OK? - Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/vaginitis/expert-answers/yeast-infection-during-pregnancy/faq-20058355)
You can safely treat a yeast infection during pregnancy with various over-the-counter antifungal creams or suppositories, including:
Miconazole (Monistat)
Clotrimazole (Gyne-Lotrimin)
These products can be used at any point during pregnancy and don't pose a risk of birth defects or other pregnancy complications. For best results, choose a seven-day formula. Home remedies or natural treatments generally aren't recommended.
Note this is from the MAYO CLINIC. A .org site. I don't trust .com sites as anyone and their brother can create a .com site.
Note that the Mayo Clinic is one of the world's #1 advisers on health issues.

When I went to doc. She prescribed me antibiotics and told me to eat yogurt.
I didn't knew about the direct use of yogurt but I do like natural things. Yes I have been to the pharmacy and had eaten loads of pills for big problems but for the few small things I prefer natural stuffs for e.g. if I have cough and cold instead of running to pharmacy we drink this thing called 'Kaadhaa' Its made up of spices like ginger, honey etc etc in it, which my mother use to give me. It is like a green tea with benefits. We have been taught to use various vegetables, oil, spices which we eat daily in our food to use it when we have some symptoms, etc. It sounds old school but I like it. :)

And that's great! Antibiotics kill the bacteria in our gut. Lack of this bacteria can cause yeast infections. Eating yogurt with lactobacillus acidophilus replaces the bacteria the antibiotic kills. If someone doesn't like yogurt there are pills that contain "LA" that can be taken instead of eating yogurt.
From the medicine aspect, Diflucan/Fluconazole is safe for use during pregnancy.

I'm going to bow out.
Good luck to the OP, and everyone else.
I still do believe that plain natural yogurt can cure yeast infections, but I don't want to argue about it. I do want to say that if anyone wishes to try this cure, it's not harmful at all, it's very safe. Can we at least agree on that?
I'm out. Just have too much else to deal with right now than to worry about something like this.
Good luck everyone. :)

Yes, plain yogurt, no sugar in it. Have to read labels. Alty and I know everything up here has to have the label with ingredients. I don't know how many other countries do this.

Plain natural yogurt DOES work. As long as it doesn't contain sugar or yeast. That is why it is so important to read the labels. "LA" is the key ingredient for the cure.
