My wife is 16 weeks along had a little blood after using bathroom so we went to the ER. Besides that they listened to the baby's heart and it's been 169 to 145 in the past and when we heard it it sounded way faster than 169. It was so fast the nurse didn't get an accurate reading. Is this normal?

The ER is great for life and death issues, your wife needs to go see her doctor and be examined.

I am sure our nurse will be along to help you out, but I have to ask that if you had questions right at that moment, why did you not clear up your doubts then. Better next time to do this and not worry later.

It can be perfectly normal for the heartrate to fluctuate with the age and activity level of baby. Midway through pregnancy, a heartrate in the 170's is not unusual. Rest assured, if they were concerned they would have checked into it further. You can certainly double check with her doctor as it would be wise to discuss with them your ER visit anyway at her next appointment.
Has the bleeding stopped? Did they do a scan?
