If she is still having periods, she "can" get pregnant, although it's not common at 50. If she is still having them now, it would be very unlikely that she is. The vast majority of the time, regular bleeding stops when pregnant.

It's common for women to start putting on some more weight around their middle when they are older. If it is a noticeable difference, in a relatively short period, she might want to see her doctor to determine if there is a cause other than normal weight gain.

Why not just ask her?
