47582Hi,
Firstly, a solenoid is merely a high current switch with a low current trigger. The large posts connect to the battery and the starter. There will be a smaller wire (usually red) with a ring terminal the size of the one for the battery terminal, which is where it goes, i.e. on the same post with the cable from the battery. This is important since this powers the wiring harness and I mount it beneath the battery cable to prevent damage when tightening the nut on the post. There will be at least one small post for the trigger which is wired to the key switch. If there happens to be a second small terminal, this is a frame ground and there is probably a short black wire that attach to it on one end and on one of the bolts that fasten the solenoid to the frame on the other end. If not present then the solenoid is grounded internally, a common practice.
Peace,
Clarke
