What if your drain pipe looks like copper?

Hello Newman1971,
Copper is commonly used for drains in commercial and industrial plumbing. It is identified as DWV copper ( meaning Drain / Waste / Vent ) and installs same way as any other copper. DWV copper has slightly different dimensions so regular copper fittings used for water piping will not fit.
If you are trying to cap a pipe then cap it off as any other drain but with DWV fittings - or use rubber Jim Cap. Usually, you won't find DWV fittings in big box stores, but any plumbing supply house that caters to professionals will have DMV fittings readily in stock

How old is the house? Haven't seen a copper drain pipe in a VERY long time. Sure you don't have a brass P trap leg?
