I just installed a new delta kitchen faucet and I can not stop the spout from dripping what can I do short of taking it back and exchanging for another

Most-likely, there is debris lodged inside cartridge. Try to quickly turn it ON and OFF several times while switching from Hot to Cold. Repeat several times. If that doesn't help, you will have to remove the cartridge, flush it and reinstall it.
