Hi there!
I got my first period when I was 10 (I'm 15 now). It's usually fairly consistent, with an odd month every once in a while. Steady bleeding for about 4 or 5 days. This time, however, I've been on it for 16 days. The first week and some of the second have been so much bleeding that I've been changing a super tampon and a maxi pad in the course of an hour or two. That finally stopped 2 days ago. But this morning when I woke up I had massive clots. I've never had so many or so big before. They're probably about the size of nickels. (Sorry to be so descriptive.) I went to the doctor for a regular checkup on the 6th of march, and I asked my doctor about it (this was the heavy flow time) and she said its common at my age to have irregular periods. I have horrible cramping and clots now though. I should also add that there is NO POSSIBILITY of pregnancy or a miscarriage. I have not had sex. Should I be as unconcerned as my doctor (and my stepmother)?

Because it has been so heavy for so long, it's time to follow up with your doctor. At the time, she was right to say a heavy period can happen, but it shouldn't last this long without getting checked out.

Don't worry too much - there are many reasons this can happen. It may be nothing at all, but be safe and find out.
