So about 2 weeks ago I had sex with my partner, we used a condom and he pulled out before he came. That was my first time having sex. From then to now I have been having itching and small bumps inside my vagina (it wasn't major). I asked a friend for personal advice before going to a doctor, she said it could be that I was allergic to the condom or it was a yeast infection due to bacteria from having sex.

I went to the doctor on 2/18/15 and the doctor said it seemed like I had a yeast infection so he gave me fluconazole and said it should clear up really soon. I do not have any more bumps inside my vagina or that much itching. Every now and a then it will start to itch inside but it isn't as bad as it was before. I'm just curious if the medicine works immediately or should I be patient and give it a week?

Did you read the instructions with the medicine? Or did he inject it?

Women vary widely in their ability to get rid of yeast - and you don't have any proof that it was yeast. Your friend could be right. Doctors don't always test.

Finish the treatment, keep clean and dry, cotton undies, no tight pants...

In another 10 days or so, if you still itch or have any white cottage cheese discharge, go to a drugstore and get an OTC treatment like Monistat (US brand).

There's always that rare chance that he gave you an STD, even if he doesn't know he has one. I would have made the doctor test.

Another thing - men can have yeast and not know it, and give it back to you over and over. They should be treated too.

(Yeast is a fungus, and anti-yeast and anti-fungal may be interchanged.)
