The other night we had our sewer backup in the middle of the night during the regeneration of our water softner. We are now getting what looks likes salt residue in our water lines and settled in our toilets when we flush. It is little yellow fluorescent looking gel beads. Is this something to be concerned about and is it possible that any sewage could have gotten into our water softner system during the backup.

The beads are the exchange resin. The sewer is gravity and softener is under pressure so a backup from the sewer into a supply side is doubtful. However, you may be having issues with the softener if ion exchange resin is getting into the water side, they will also clog the aerators on the faucets.
