Should my basement bathroom plumbing be capped off while we wait for the checks to clear from an insurance claim? Currently all of our pipes including the toilet main in the ground are all open and exposed. Our contractor has halted work until the insurance checks are signed off from our mortgage company. We sent the checks out around 2-3 weeks ago and really have no idea how long until we receive our first check to pay them so they can continue. Since they have stopped repairing our basement, the pipes have started to backup sewage into our basement whenever we take a shower or give the kids a bath. They have installed almost all of our drywall, but no carpet yet. The contractor assured me that they should not when it backed up a little bit of water during construction. Our basement bathroom backed up and we had our pipes snaked. We filea claim with our homeowners insurance but before the adjuster made it out the basement flooded from heavy rains in August, so we had to file another claim.
