Would a trash bag over a window keep a smell from coming into the room where the window is? Window is already closed

If the window is already closed, how can a smell enter the room from the outside? I don't think anything else 'over' the window will help at all. It will only keep the light out.

Inspect around the window for gaps, if any, then seal them up with putty. Or, tape heavy clear plastic over the window.
Do you live near an abbatoir ?

There are no gaps that can be sealed with putty. No clear heavy plastic.
I have no idea what that is

Abbatoir" Fancy French name for a slaughter house. Put plastic over the window, you probably have leaks at the sash. Where is the smell coming from?

That is where abbatoirs are located, somewhere in the neighbourhood.

There is not one where I live. Someone is burning wood and that is what is making me sick
