Hi, I have a problem with the hot water tap in my bathroom basin. When turning the tap on the water runs for roughly 15-20 seconds then turns off with the tap still open. Turning the tap on and off again only gets a small amount of water coming out of the tap.
No other hot taps have this issue and we have a combi boiler fitted, hopefully somebody can help with this annoying problem.

Turn off water to basin. Remove handle. If this a compression type valve (one you turn multiple turns to open and close) remove bonnet nut (the nut around the stem). Remove the stem by turning like you are opening. The blockage is caused either by a loose washer or debris in the valve. Replace the washer on the end of the stem. Turn on water briefly while holding your hand over the valve to flush out any debris.
If the valve has a cartridge type stem (usually turns only a 1/4 turn to open and close), the blockage is caused by debris. Remove the bonnet nut and pull the stem out. Remove the seal and spring in the bottom of the valve body. Turn on water briefly to flush valve. Reinstall springs and seals.
Reinstall stem, bonnet nut and handle.
