My cat was quite short haired, but of late she has bloomed into a mass of fur, she is constantly grooming and generally keeps her fur looking great but I've found some mats of hair at the back of her legs I keep shaving them off, but they keep coming back again, when she's been grooming herself there are massive clumps of fur where she was laid , does anyone have and ideas on how to keep them at bay, I groom her with her brush, and she also does it, but she doesn't seem to be able to keep on top of it all, also, her kitten is now 7 months old and has short fur like jinx used to have, what are the chances of hers becoming the same as mums? If anyone has some ideas that would be great.

Thanks, hailey , England

Hello,

I had a short haired cat who started getting mats the older she got. Most of the time, diet is the culprit, but in my case it was age.

As my cat got older, her skin and coat became dryer. Upgrading the food to a high quality diet (or even a diet specifically for skin/hair problems) might help. Also, adding 5 to 10 milliliters of cod fish oil to the food might help.

Switch to a fine tooth metal comb. Brushes only get the top coat but don't remove the problem undercoat. The undercoat is where the mats start.

I hope some of these suggestions help!

Regards,
