We are looking to upgrade our water meter from 5/8 inch to 3/4 inch, due to an addition that we are planning next year. In the interim, we are upgrading a bathroom, and would like to ensure that the changes we make now can be permanent, without having to revisit next year, after our meter upgrade. My question is this: Can we install a 3/4 inch water main line and connect it to our 5/8 inch meter, running interior 3/4 inch plumbing to the existing bathroom? I ask because I'm unsure if flowrate / pressure / etc would be affected by the new pipe dimensions.

The plan would then be to upgrade meter next year, and add additional plumbing to route to new kitchen, etc.

Thanks!

I have never seen 5/8" water meter before...

Yes, you can install 3/4" pipe on 5/8" water meter. In fact, I suggest you install 1" water main to assure adequate water volume.

In my area, 3/4" almost don't exist any more as they are way too small for today's average house.

If you give me water pressure, distance between water meter and house and number of bathrooms, we will be able to give you more accurate opinion.

Back to you
