I need the proper procedure for changing drum brakes on a 1989 GMC 2500 Sierra SL. It appears to have a 1 ton rear end setup on the back end, instead of the factory 3/4 rear end, and I can't seem to find the procedure for the 1 ton rear ends.

I don't think you will find much difference, if any, between the 3/4 and the 1 ton. In fact, the procedure for changing the rear shoes on any vehicle are very similar. Just use your natural mechanical ability and work on one side at a time--this will allow you to reference the other side, if needed.

Quite a few 3/4 Tons have 1 ton brakes. Mine does too, As was mentioned... there aren't much differences between drum brakes... meaning they all basically work the same and are roughly assembled in the same manner. And I've been doing brake jobs since I was 11 (yes unassisted after my father taught me earlier) , that makes it 42 years now. I never paid a mechanic to touch the brakes on something that wasn't under warranty and I've had nearly 2 dozen cars over the years.

Do you know if it is a full floating rear axle or a semi-floating axle. The procedures are VERY different.

3/4 ton is a semi-floater, the one ton is a full floater.
