I live in Upstate Ny and have been going through an ongoing problem with my ex husband. My kids and I left our home almost 6 years ago because he is an alcoholic and an abuser. He has tried to commit suicide numerous times and is now moving from girlfriend to girlfriend. He hasn't contacted his 2 children over the last 5 years but for the past year he has been pulling me into court to try to get some type of visitation. My children are ages 14 and 11 and neither of them want to speak or see their dad. My public defender says that he can keep filing petitions as much as he wants but it is putting a strain on them and me. What can I do? Can't I file abandoment? Please help, I am at my wits end!

No, not seeing his kids, is not against the law.

You can make sure, he is paying all of his court ordered child support, and his pay is garnished each month.

But, to be honest, at some point, he is going to win, some level of visitation, so you may as well, be prepared for him to win something at some point I am surprised he has not already.

He would get at least, supervised, after a parenting and counseling class. I would doubt if a judge would refuse that.

So, you can try to find some term, that is the least and most supervised, and try to settle on that
