What is the limit of NSA entrapment? I have my computer seemingly, slowing, recording, my website use when I visit adult sites. I also get spammed routinely with solicitations, none that I have bitten on? Is it feasible that local law enforcement is so bored that they are entrapping citizens for legal use of the internet??

Suffer from paranoia much?

Seriously... ever hear of malware... and spam. The NSA isn't behind any of that. I bet you aren't running any CURRENT anti-malware or antivirus software on your machine are you?

The NSA only cares if you are surfing for kiddy porn...they could care less about your obession with hariy big boobed Inuit women.

So your computer is slowing down because the NSA is spying on you?

That explains why mine is slowing down...and here all along I thought it was crapware on the system.

I don't think that is any of NSA's business either. If they were to pass the data on to law enforcement agencies I think there would be a major problem with prosecution.

@AK- Just to clear things up...not sure how it happened but you quoted me as saying something that smoothy said.

I also should have added... "people cruising jihadist websites" to those cruising for kiddie porn to my post.

Can't speak on the intricacies of the legality if a case is brought up, but they do have a legal charter to spie on everyone, if we like it or not. As long as our polititions allow it.

Sorry, odinn7; that is what comes from trying to do two things at once.

Smoothy, I don't know about a "charter to spy on everyone", but I don't think that they can pass that info. On to the FBI or to state cops, unless terrorism is involved.

There was a time when Bill Clinton was in Office all the agencies were prohibited from talking to each other and exchanging more than greetings... 9/11 happened as a result because tips and info never got passed along that MIGHT have stopped it.

THat was finally repealed in recent years... though I honestly do not remember when it was exactly.

NSA gets to spy on everyone in effect....the CIA is chartered to spy on everyone OUTSIDE the USA. I might want to add...the FBI is also involved in a lot of operations outside the USA as well.

Now I am not commenting on the rules and laws pertaining to evidence (you no doubt understand that far better than I do). But they might use that to get a probible cause search warrant which would net the evidence actually used against them in a case.

I do know the means and methods part quite well.

Let me put it this way:

Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton and the other framers of the 4th Amendment would be rolling in their graves if they figured the feds could get away with snooping on citizens, without probable cause, and using the resulting information to prosecute people for what they view with their computers (if the framers could even wrap their minds around such a concept :) ).

Not saying I like it, or agree with it... but its happening, and its been happening for a very long time (longer than most people think)... and the politicians those of us who vote for allow it to happen, and probably will continue to. Contrary to popular opinion (and what some journalists might think)...they don't operate in the ether without a lot of oversight.

All I have to say is, "If you think, that they can't or aren't doing it, time to think again".

The porn site you visited placed a cookie that was picked up by another party. They then prey on you by sending official looking" violation" document, hoping you will pay their "fine". Reboot and make sure you have good malware installed.

The NSA does not actually spy on individual computers. They get their information from monitoring traffic. To understand this you have to understand how the Internet works. Every time you send a request to a WEB page, that request is split into datapackets and wrapped in address info showing the source and destination. The data packets are sent to a router which passes it to another router and so on until it reaches its destination. Same is true of the return trip. The NSA (and hackers), grab those packets off less than secure routers to piece together the data contained in the transmission. This does not affect transmission speed.

So if your computer is slowing down its because of crapware and insufficient maintenance etc.

Also, while they might not be able to use what info they glean in a case against you, they can use it to make you a "person if interest" and do further, more legal investigations.

Yes, the NSA would not be in your computer,
And they were doing this for years, long before Bush.
But, they get and intercept the signals being transmitted. So no need to be in your computer.

This would just be malware, from the adult sites, this is very common.
