In the beginning of the movie is this woman sitting outside (its raining) with a gun, she wants to commit suicide because her husband was killed.
When she put the gun to her chin, she hears a boy screaming. His sister gets run over by a car. She brings the girl to the hospital where she meets her best youth friend.
They catch up again, he now spends his free time with kids from the ghetto and has kidney failures.

Also she wrote a story about a mockingbird.

I have been searching for this movie for ages.
