I had a new sewer system put in 5 years ago. Recently, I uncovered the rubber connector that joins the new PVC pipe to the cast iron pipe from the house. This connector was badly distorted due to the PVC pipe settling in the ground lower than the iron pipe. I want to cut back the iron pipe 2' or so and install an intermediate PVC
Pipe with 2 new FERNCO connectors to correct the problem. Any advice?

Uncover 2 to 3 feet of the PVC pipe. Lift the PVC pipe and place a short piece of treated 2x4 under it, realigning it with the cast iron. Reconnect using a sheilded rubber coupling. By the time that piece of 2x4 decays the earth will have compacted and support the pipe.

agree with Harold. The PVC wasn't bedded in properly. Simply bed the PVC with a treated2X3 or a puddle of cement and connect using a shielded metal coupling. Good luck, Tom
