I'm hoping to get some ideas or suggestions.
As some of you may know, I have acquired an Olde English Bulldogge. He is so sweet, attentive and absolutely adorable. However, he does have a dark side.
HE EATS POO!
I thought it was behavioral at first. I gave the additives in his food and my other dogs' food. No changes. Didn't stop him one bit
My yard is the cleanest yard in 6 counties. Every time he goes outside to do his business I clean it up. I've been doing this for months. No changes. He still eats it.
He has chronic diarrhea. For awhile it was blow out, watery diarrhea. Now it ranges from soft-serve to cow patties. My other dogs will go out and poop one or two piles (normal). He will have up to 6 piles (diarrhea).. He will be walking along and stop dead in his tracks to do number two.
I know bulldogs are known to be ruled by their bellies, but this boy is STARVING! He would eat himself to death.
His medical ---
As a small pup, he was treated for giardia. He was on a high dose of metronidazole and 5 days of fenbendazole over a few weeks. Stools got better, but never normal
He than was placed on a GI diet. Maybe the giardia caused his GI tract to become irritated. Improvement, but not normal.
I changed him to a "easy to digest" super high quality food.. Innova Venison & Split pea. While on this food, he was also placed on Tylan powder, 1/8tsp once a day. I was excited because I got normal poops here and there. Tylan powder ran out, stool stayed somewhat normal.
Diarrhea came back. He was put on 1000mg of Amoxicillian and Rx clay to help stop the diarrhea. Not a lot of improvement.
He is no eating Royal Canin HP. He's been on it for 2 weeks. I know things don't improve over night, but there is absolutely NO improvement.
He got neutered yesterday. He is back on Metronidazole and the diarrhea is awful. Runny, cow patty.
I think he has a malabsorption issue or EPI. The vet doesn't think so because he doesn't have weight loss or bad hair coat. The specialist was a lot of help and said "try the diet".
I don't know what to do. Nothing I've tried has helped him...
Thoughts? Suggestions?
