Hi my name is joe. I have a 88 civic lx 1.5 that I'm having problems. I will be on the freeway and the call will just die. But start if I let it sit for 20-30 min I have changed out the fuel filter . Since I thought it was dirty and it was the problem..? 3. Months later it dies again Now a friend says oh. It's the distributor / or the fuel pump Has anyone had the same thing happen to them

I've seen hundreds of similar situations over the years. Normally, replacing the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil, located inside the distributor, solves the problem. Be sure to apply silicone heat transfer compound to the back of the new ICM, otherwise it won't last long. Failure to replace the rotor and distributor cap every 60,000 miles often causes these components to fail; therefore, this is the perfect time to replace them. If you decide to replace the distributor, only go with a genuine Honda product--all others are problematic and will let you down.

Can you hear the fuel pump run when you first turn the key to the on position without starting the engine/ Its literally under the drivers side back seat if it's a hatchback.

I had a Hyundai that would die out after running for a half hour, maybe 45 minutes. Let it sit and cool off and it was good to go again. Turned out to be a bad fuel pump.
