I have this problem too, I took apart the bottom of my dishwasher and cleaned out a lot of food particles and thought that was going to fix the smell but it didn't. I noticed that there was water pooled at the very very bottom that really shouldn't be there, My husband said it wasn't draining right and looked online and fixed the problem by putting the drain hose higher underneath my sink, there is a wikopedia site for this and they show you how, it seemed to work. Like her I couldn't stand to be in the kitchen when it running because it smelled so bad, I tried bleach and everything. Nothing worked until he messed with the drain hose, I hope this helps. It carried the water away instead of pooling at the bottom with bacteria in it and causeing the smell when it runs. Thanks! Good luck!

I noticed that there was water pooled at the very very bottom that really shouldn't be there, Hi Christina, that is the sump. You should have sponged it out and cleaned it out with bleach. Where do you discharge it to? A branch tailpiece or into a disposal? Does the sink drain or the disposal smell also? You MUST have a air gap in the hose for it to drain properly. I will put up a image of a high loop air gap[. Secure the hose as high as it will go and lean out that sump. Good luck, Tom
