Hi,
I have a 98 Civic LX auto. My problem exists when the car has been sitting for some time or when it is cold outside. I will put the car in drive in and start going. At about 20 when in first gear and relatively low rpm the transmission will shift into 2nd gear with a loud and noticeable thud with higher than normal shift shock. After about two to four more shifts it will be OK and will work fine. I have researched this problem and found maybe 2 culprits and I am asking which one you would lean more too? First the transmission fluid is thicker when cold and takes time to bond to the mechanical parts in the transmission and because of this for some reason it doesn't shift correctly. Second I have a faulty or soon to be faulty transmission control solenoid, I know there are several so which one? Lastly it could be something else, if so what? To better clarify condition of transmission here is some info, 172,000, trans fluid changed at regular intervals in cars lifetime, and just changed at 171,000 with Honda DW-1 3X3.
Thanks,
Andrew
