I bought my house last year and had the septic emptied. They said they found a rag in the tank. It is 4 bedroom house but I am the only one living here. It has worked great until 2 weeks ago. It got very slow. I have about a 200' drain line and it was dry so we dug up 90' and was able to put a balloon up there and also used one at the house.(not at the same time.) It worked for 3 days (had company) then it plugged. Called plumber who came out and used a electric snake went down through the vent. They never really found anything but it did start working. Now it has slowed again-- I do have grey water coming out of drain, more when I use water (washing clothes-dishwasher-shower) but if I use a lot of water it will clog. Question is --do I have something over the inlet or outlet of tank?? Or do I find someone to dig it up or just have it pumped again. Thanks

A rag in your septic tank should hurt anything. Did they make a big deal out of this? Can you tell me why you have a 200 foot drain from the house to the tank? Have you ever had there drain field check? Back to you, Tom

Have you inspected your drain fields for clogs or blockage?

Tom, it is an old farm house where there is a septic and the grey water drains off. Most of the houses around here are that way, unless the property is sold then it is required to be updated with leach field. I have since I posted this am - put a hose in the septic top and there is "water" coming out of the drain line so I would guess its down to 2 things. Either it just needs pumped or there is something at the inlet. Any ideas? Thanks for the quick response.

water" coming out of the drain line defined drain line. If the line from the house through the tank or is it the tank to the drain field? Back to you, Tom

Is the waste water from house getting to the septic. That is the main and first question.
Did the plumber, run a snake, the entire 200 feet (plus distance ) all the way to septic.
